CIBC, is short for Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, provides online banking, mobile banking, debit card, credit card and other commercial banking services around the world. For a long time, it is very popular and offer customers excellent banking services to its customers.

In 2005, I opened an online banking account at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) at a near branch. However, I got an unauthorized charge on my checking account. Then I realized that I got a deduction from my checking account at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. I was surprised and contacted with CIBC both by telephone and online chat through its official website. I informed them what was wrong with my checking account and asked them to figure it out.

I was very anxious at that time, because I was going to attend a conference, while I could not find a branch of CIBC bank in the vicinity of my home. Two weeks later, when I went back home, I made the same deposit in my checking account, just in order to cover not only the unauthorized charge, but the overdrawn account fees.


Then I contacted with Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce customer service representatives again and they assured me that a dispute was posted on my behalf. The disputed amount was finally waived on August 8th, 2005, almost one month after I contacted with them. I submitted several documents immediately upon I received the receipt Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce sent to me. Fortunately, the matter was resolved in my favor, and the amount of the unauthorized charge was again deposited back into my checking account at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. As a result, none of the fees charged to my Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce account, which made me so happy.

I went back to a customer service representative at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and they told me that I should call 888 toll number for assistance. Moreover, they could not do anything, although another customer service representative promised me that he had helped me to solve the problem and returned the fees to my checking account at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.

Later, I visited a local branch of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce which was close to my home. They advised me to avoid customer service representatives via online chat and telephone call in the future and I should directly visit its branch and asked them for help.

However, the next month I noticed that I have suffered additional loss, because I was charged for extra fees at CIBC. My checking account at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce had been overdrawn, because I got unauthorized fees on August 8, 2005. Furthermore, I had to pay an additional fee for banking services at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. I did not want to spend so much time on the customer services a Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, since I really did not care about the direct losses of money. After all, I still need to work hard and focus on my job.


Since 2005, I have had online banking services at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce for a long time. although sometimes I feel very happy, I still recommend CIBC to my friends. although the process for me to deal with the overdraft fees was too complicated, I still think Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce could provide me professional banking services.
